Blister Beetle Toxicity
This pest can be a horse's worst nightmare. The blister beetle feeds on the blooms of alfalfa and are drawn into the bales by accident. Ingestion of all or parts of the insect can be deadly to horses. When a horse eats a beetle or parts thereof, the lining of the digestive tract becomes blistered. The blisters rupture causing ulcers, endotoxic shock and various degrees of colic.
